SUMMER PRAISE

How green, how green
The trees that lean
On my window pane.
For it’s the summer
Of my thanks.
Bright sun and gratitude
For flowers and grassy banks
And this enchanted mood.

How blue, how blue
Is the June sky
As distant clouds drift
Softly by.
How blue.
I could not paint so
Gay a scene.
Nor ask what it can mean
To such as I.

How warm, how warm
On the bare skin
Such comfort sunlight gives.
It opens my heart to let
Love in
The one who died for us
Who sin.
Yet he forgives.
