A Church Warden prepares.
Sweeping up golden stars
From the Christmas tree
In the church sanctuary.
Rubbing candle holders.
Scraping wax from chairs.
Holy music melts away cares.
Red berries among green.
Silver lights twinkle up high.
The collection plate polished
To an inviting sheen.
On the ceiling, angels
In a rainbow coloured sky.

Cacti in pink flower
Vie with sparkling tinsel
As prayer candle shine.
Natural at this hour,
A cream and gold altar cloth
Lends a sense of the divine.
Straw scattered on the floor.
The crib circled by chairs.
Christ, his worshipers
Wait to adore,
With holy ‘midnight prayers.
