Don’t dump my love
With strangers in the winter
Of his life, for there are many
Dangers if he should lose his wife.

Don’t treat him like an infant
Or suffer him abuse.
He wouldn’t want to carry on
If he were not of use.

Play my love the music
Of John Sebastion Bach.
Keep his reading lamp aglow
Diminishing the dark.

Give my love good vision.
Make sure he can hear
Each wonderful musician
Resonant and clear.

He will not want the tele.
Bingo’s not his game.
Bring good food from the deli.
And use his Christian name.

Exciting conversation
To stir his intellect.
These things will help
Him feel worthy of respect.

Give him room for prayer
And allow him time to think.
And Lord, could he please
Have some real ale to drink?
