The women of Islam graceful in scarf
Join together and happily laugh.
Gleam of bright sequins scatter their robes.
Ear-rings swing golden from their ear lobes.
Sandals on feet whatever the clime.
Children to greet, with no sense of time,
Halal to cook and always rice.
The Muslim women seem very nice.
Food cooked for neighbours and for next door
Even when their households are poor
Loving to husbands, respect for the old.
These women deserve their tale to be told.
Husbands and children they will put first.
Elderly parents will be cared for and nursed.
Some say traditions like these will expire,
But such family values should often inspire.
This poem is about women encountered in our neighbourhood.
